Each year the Kiwanis Club of Pullman presents the Kiwanis Community Service Recognition Award to advance and honor community service and volunteerism in the Pullman area.
Recipients of the award are outstanding contributors to the well being and environment of Pullman; exemplary role models for Pullman’s children, men, and women; and show demonstrated commitment to civic matters and the ongoing improvement of the city.
2026 Award – McKenzie Brumet
Pullman Kiwanis presented its 2026 Community Service Recognition Award to McKenzie Brumet. In her role as SEL Giving Manager for Community Outreach, McKenzie actively engages throughout the community to manage and strengthen charitable giving efforts. She has supported Kiwanis Stuff the Bus, United Way, and most recently led the effort to establish Boys and Girls Club in Pullman.
2025 Award – Jim Haugen
Jim Haugen been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pullman since 1972. Jim was the historian for the Club by preserving the original documents for the club, formed over 100 years ago. He handed off the charter and other documents for the 100-year celebration to the club.
Jim served as the club treasurer for many years. When the club launched the first year Stuff the Bus, he handled the finances and furnished information about the donations we received. Jim offered advice about the funds and was very supportive of the drive when it was formed in 2008.
We started recognizing Lincoln Middle School Students of the Month in 1994 with a presentation at club luncheons with parents, thanks to Jim’s help. The luncheons for the LMS students continue today.
His longtime membership in the club has had an impact through Stuff the Bus, Builders Club and historical preservation of key documents for the club. Jim’s service for the kids in our community is what makes Kiwanis as a service club a unique and valuable contributor for our community.
