Washington State University Scholarship
BACKGROUND: The Pullman Kiwanis Club has a long and distinguished history of supporting projects that benefit children and college-age adults through the Circle K Club at WSU and the Key Club at Pullman High School. This commitment started in 1933 when the Pullman Kiwanis organized the first Circle K house at WSU, an idea which eventually spread from Pullman throughout the United States and Canada.
To recognize this long-term commitment to Sponsored Youth Programs, the Pullman Kiwanis Club in April 2000 established the Pullman Kiwanis Club WSU-Pullman Scholarship.
USES AND PURPOSES: The income from this fund shall be used to award one or more scholarships to Washington State University students according to the following criteria:
- freshman, transfer, or currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at WSU Pullman;
- enrolled fulltime;
- demonstrated commitment to community service through active involvement in a range of community projects that benefit the community at large;
- preference to applicants who are or who have been members of a Key Club or Circle K Club;
- preference to students with a strong academic record;
- financial need is NOT to be a factor in the award decision.

2007 Report: The scholarship fund total was $40,238.38 as of August 31, 2007. Our scholarship recipients for 2007-2008 are Schyler Nichole Hect, freshman in bioengineering from Renton, Washington, and Alisha Maile Taniguchi, junior in nursing from Spokane, Washington. Both have fine academic records, extensive volunteer and leadership experience and both have either Circle K or Key Club involvement.
2004 Report: The scholarship total on October 18, 2004 is $25,197.91. Thank you club members for your generous support to endow a Kiwanis Scholarship for a student at WSU. We have reached our goal of $25,000 on or before April 2005! Let’s keep moving forward with this project. We can expect the total fund value to be increased quarterly and to provide income to award an annual scholarship. The total amount available for awarding should be about $1,000 in September, 2005.
